Fourteen riders were in attendance at this, the club’s first time trial of the 2009 season. Riders enjoyed good light for the ride notwithstanding the 7.00 pm start. Good light was accompanied by a blustery southwest wind that moderated during the course of the event. Ambient temperature was about 10 Celsius; the roads were dry.
The best times for the evening’s ride were predictably below the course record of 22:06 while the average time for male riders, at 27:10, was better than last season’s first time trial. Colin Tuckwell and Michael Pumphrey, both Thornton riders, were placed first and second, ahead of the distinguished Dave Williams and Shay Giles. Rachelle Pumphrey had the best women’s time. Overall, this was an inspiring start to the season.
