Castle cycle challenge, hastings Sunday, 25 April 2010

Club members Roy and Jane from Hastings do not want fellow Thornton club members to miss this delightful Sunday ride. Yes, it does mean most of us driving to Hastings and parking at the Rock-a-Nore pay-and-display car park, but once the ride starts at 8:30 am, whether you choose the 25-mile ride or the 40-mile ride, you will savour much of the tasteful character of seaboard East Sussex. The sea-front boulevards of Hastings and Bexhill, the historic majesty of the Roman/Norman ruins of Pevensey Castle, and – on the 40-mile ride – the eerie cool of the Pevensey Levels en route northwards to Wartling and Herstmonceaux Castle. After a two mile dash along the A271 to Magham Down, the pace returns to flat-land ease as the route south crosses again ‘the levels’ to Rickney and Pevensey Castle. Then home to Hastings by retracing the outward route along the mature sea-front boulevards, always with the hope of a following west wind.
Ask Roy or Gordon for an advance entry form (£6) or pay on the day (£8).
