Tribute to Barry Shoebridge

With great sadness I report that Barry passed away on 29th December 2009 after losing a courageous battle against cancer.

Barry joined Thornton Road Club at the new year of 1954. In Febuary of that year he successfully rode in the west Twickenham 100 mile reliability trial (a very hilly route) and on the 21st March rode his first Time Trial, The Kentish Wheelers 25 mile Event. Barry being the second fastest Thornton competiter recording 1 hour 10 minutes 38 seconds, following on with the Delta Road Club 25 mile Time Trial on 11th April on the Portsmouth Road. In Barry's usual good spirit he rode many other Time Trials and massed start events until his National Sevice call up in 1955. Barry was also a cheerful regular at The Clubroom and Clubruns. The club has gained a lot from his Enthsiasum. Thornton Road Club would like to express our condolences to his wife Margeret and Family. Gordon Davies
