A good turn out of Thornton RC members took part in this event this year. The weather was a lot better than the last two years, providing good conditions with light winds. Albeit the route was pretty much as usual with lots of climbing. The day started early, leaving Folkestone at 6:30am, with the end of the spring like weather, start temperature was just above freezing. Unfortunately, Kevin arrived a little later (too many Sella's?) and missed the start. A fast pace trying to keep warm resulted in times of just over 4 hours, I feel like I'm destined never to get below 4 hours. A top 32 place for Ian in the 50k route and 69 out of 750 for the best TRC time on 110k route. The good time was a result of Andy and Nick's efforts; Andy whom I am not sure never got out of the big ring and Nick who spent copious amounts of time on the front; now that is something new. No punctures but a close shave with a Mercedes Estate resulting in Andy heading down an unsurfaced escape lane 500m from the finish line followed by a close encounter with spooked horse; all of which did no soil a for a good day out!
