Fabian Cancellara had successful surgery after breaking collarbone in Tour of Flanders

 

Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Nissan) successfully underwent surgical treatment on Sunday night after crashing out of the Tour of Flanders earlier in the day and breaking his right collarbone, the team said in a statement.

“The operation revealed a four-part fracture of the collarbone, not a triple fracture, as communicated earlier,” the team said on Monday.

“The bone was put together using a special technique with a clavicle pin, allowing for a better and faster recovery. The removal of the pin, once the bone has healed, requires a small routine operation.”

Cancellara will hold a press conference about his situation tomorrow from the hospital in Switzerland.

On his Twitter account, Cancellara talked about his bad luck and thanked people for their support.
