The previous week saw no activity from Thornton members due
to poor weather and cancelled events. This week John lined up alongside 42
other riders for the Ashford Wheelers Wednesday night ten on the Q10/38,
recording a respectable 25.54.
Sunday saw one of the big events of the year, the KCA 100 on
the Q100 revised 2012, with 53 on the start sheet, including 5 Thorntons. Rob
Wheeler and Malcom Strickland, (wearing club colours for the first time this
year) Don and Russ entering their first 100, and me.
The day started with a brisk south westerly wind, quick
light shower and only one short climb on the Hamstreet by-pass (no interest for
the STRAVA boys then). The next eighty miles were spent charging round Romney
and Denge marshes, where the wind as we know is a real factor.
Rob being the best Thornton with 4.36.16, Russ 5.21.11, Don
who couldn’t decide whether to abandon or carry on finished with 4.57.59, I
managed 4.43.24 with a two minute delay at the start and a sticky back brake
for the race, Malcom bringing up the rear with 6.08.30.
Good effort by everybody, it was a tough day. Andy Miles VC
Elan won the event with 3.57.06

EDIT: Thanks to Brian and Nick for riding over and showing support for the Club. Also, Russ informed Viv that he has now earned 2 PBs over the last few weeks; he felt it needed mentioning!!! -
